I'm not a fan of snakes since I ate my first apple. Outstanding portraits

Wow is right! I really like the lower aperture shots.....that new DO lens is wonderful!!
(P.S. I very much like your version 1 as well!)

The new zoom is stellar too, of course!

Wonderful portraits, Brian. I like all of them but I'm impressed by the white ibis -- I don't normally think of them as being particularly handsome (more in the "interesting" category) but you did well by this guy. Great colors and DOF control on all of them.

Very nice detail and beautiful color in these close-ups Brian.
#1 is a terrific composition because of the unique perspective... I also like your composition for the Greater Flamingo... well done.
The comps in 3 and 4 are just a bit too tight for me... for the BCNH I would crop even tighter to focus more attention to the head... the White Ibis is my favorite in this set, and I would like it even better with a little more room to the right.

Lovely set Brian, very well done and a pleasure to view.

Very nice shots Brian,

How much of the sharpness and contrast is "in the lens" versus how much is in post process?

Just curious in you need to push contrast in 400mm DO II like you did in the original and same question for 100-400mm II.

Thanks
Bill

Thank you. Hope your mother-in-law doesn't browse FM!

And, yes, it's here already...canceled plans to go out tonight.

Thank you, Mark. I tend not to focus on ibises, but this one caught my attention and it seemed to be completely relaxed with me close by.

Thank you, Bill. I did selective sharpening on all of them in post, but not all that much as most in this set didn't seem to need it. I've had both lenses only a short time, but I haven't noticed any lack of contrast in using the 400mm DO II. I may have boosted the contrast slightly in a couple, but I haven't noted any tendency toward lower contrast. I'm very pleased with the lens and can't point to any real deficiencies. Both lenses have performed well for me and at 400mm both excel. You can't go wrong with either.

Maybe others will do a more scientific comparison. Subjectively, both get an "A" from me!
