More from the archives...

This was taken in 2013 on Hwy 622 in Ontario just after a small rainstorm passed through. The light hitting the steam from the freshly rained on trees and the calm water was too much to pass up on. The DR of light here is obviously huge and I used 5 exposures to capture it. Because of the extra work of blending this scene I hadn't touched it until now. I subtly blended in the 4 extra exposures for the sun and sky. The sun was very bright and so I processed this image to reflect that. I wasn't expecting this to turn out well but I am quite happy with it.

Hope you enjoy!

Hey Scott,

Very cool looking. I really like how you worked the sun, it is so totally realistic looking. Shooting into the sun like that is usually a recipe for disaster, so way to go on blending the exposures to make it look so good.

Such crisp clarity on this one! Very peaceful scene! Have you got a new camera yet Scott?

Nicely seen scene, Scott! Masterful blending too. I know from using that lens that the 10-22 is good at avoiding veiling flare but tends to make numerous globular (i.e. not attractive) flare objects when the sun is in the frame. You were either very lucky or did an amazing job of blending those out. The result is a really nice "experiential" picture -- it isn't overly dramatic, but perfectly conveys the experience of beholding that scene.

Thank you Dave. I guess I can chalk it up luck. I did have a couple of minor flares in the middle of the image that needed editing. I approach blending images/processing differently then most. Instead of processing then blending I blend the unprocessed images first making a flat dull looking "raw" image that has no clipped highlights or shadows. Then I save that TIFF file and process it like I would a single exposure.

Another winner Scott! Taking a negative(lens flare) and turning into a beautiful composition!
Well done!

Very nice image and processing skills. As mentioned above, this is not an easy scene to pull off.

great shot.
The lake and upper right sky look unnaturally dark compared to the near trees and sun, however you have a special knack for blending the light such that looks great. Nice job.

Thank you David and Ton.

Davin, not sure I am seeing what you are. To me, this looks pretty close considering it is shot at 10mm and the sun is included in the shot.
