p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Anyone get their D750 back from recall repair?

I have not sent mine in yet, as I got the wrong shipping labels from Nikon - they wanted me to send it by ground to NY even though live in CA.

Anyway I have seen images like the below, indicating that the cameras are being returned still showing the shadowing/light-shielding issue...these images are after the fix:

Sent mine last week....I never did have any flare issues. I only sent it back to get the black dot......

.....and a free cleaning....

Sent mine in on 1/20, Nikon received it 1/22. I haven't received anything as far as a status or update, but I anticipated at least a couple of weeks, minimum.

I've checked the website, but I can't find anything on there where I can check the status...anyone know if it's possible, and how to do it, short of actually calling them?

Seems like, since I registered the camera when I first got it, I'd be able to put the serial number in and get an update...

I'm curious to see what others say about the turn around time. My serial number is technically affected but I cannot reproduce the flare issue no matter how hard I try to. If it's a week turn around, then why not. If it's two months for a problem I don't think I have there's no way it's worth it to me.

I shipped mine out last week, arrived in Melville 1/23 and it's currently in billing state, so it should ship out tomorrow or thu. I was only able to reproduce flare with my 50 1.8g with LED flashing in LV, but not with my 24-120 f4 or 70-200 2.8VR in real world shooting. Sent in for the AF adjustments and if I ever decide to sell it in the future.

The OP is referring to this thread http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/55183153. Definitely an improvement

Mine went out from Vegas yesterday. Unlike most repairs, they wanted it to go to NY so I expect to be without it for at least 2 weeks.

Form, I got a NY label as well, but I called and they sent a new one for Los Angeles...last time I send a box to the east coast from the Bay Area via UPS ground it took nine days to arrive.

an improvement, sure. solved, not really.

they seemed to have done something that reduced the flare in general, but the clear cut-off line is still there, and really needs to go to the edge of the frame.

I sent mine off last Wednesday (1/21). It arrived in NY at 8:30 Monday morning, but I haven't heard anything from Nikon yet. I'm sure them closing early on Monday didn't help, and I assume they had limited staff on Tuesday if they were even open at all. So here I sit...waiting for some kind of notification.

Shoot, I didn't realize I could have sent mine to LA instead of NY...I guess I just wasted several days more in shipping. I never saw the issue, unlikely I ever would have, but wanted the camera to have the dot for future resale purposes.

jr19,

It's nearly the same here. I sent my D750 from Seattle to Melville Tuesday, 20 January, not realizing that perhaps I could have telephoned Nikon to get an LA shipping label to replace the Melville label I'd downloaded. The tracking number I got from the Seattle UPS Store never worked on line, so I finally called UPS Monday, 26 January, and was told that scheduled arrival was yesterday, Tuesday. With the snow, it's anybody's guess when my D750 will arrive, let alone be serviced and returned. Given the likely volume at Melville, I suspect February end won't be far off the mark. Of course, I've not received so far any Nikon acknowledgment. I really regret having sent my D750, really just to get the black dot for some unlikely or nebulous resale or trade-in, since I've always studiously avoided "flare" shots, and, especially, weddings.

I am waiting to see if Nikon is really fixing this issue before sending mine in.

FYI Mohun and others: you don't have to go around seeking out "flare" to get the issue on an affected camera. Below is a shot I took of a buy:
The below shot was taken indoors on an overcast day, window well behind the subject. All it took was a backlight (window) and i got the band across the top of the frame (cutting across his forehead.) So yeah...it does not take pointing your camera at the sun etc. for this issue to present itself. Best to get it fixed if possible.

I didn't realize that there was a choice of where to send it. If I would have known about the storm, I probably would have opted to send it to LA. However, being in Iowa, it probably doesn't matter where I send it as far as travel times goes.

How were you able to get this info?

When I went to the Nikon site, I navigated to a page where I had to enter an order #, but I have no idea what that might be. They received my camera on 1/22, but I have yet to receive an email from them.

I'll just call them tomorrow I guess, but you'd think they'd have some kind of automated email notification system in place...apparently not.

Hmm, strange that I didn't get one. Even more strange that some have even gotten their cameras back, having arrived at Nikon after mine did.

Sorry to say but in my experience, Nikon USA service is pretty terrible. You get better service from Apple for a $199 iphone than you do from Nikon for a $3k DSLR.

They do, but it often lags what is actually happening. Recently I sent in a D600 for "the fix"; 5 days after I UPS confirmed delivery, I received the email with a repair number to use when checking on progress. Using that, it showed no info, even after checking each day for 3 days. On the 4th day, it showed a repair quote, and said I did not need to approve because it was under warranty. That same day UPS delivered the camera to my door. The day after that, I received a standard email from Nikon stating my camera was repaired and would be mailed shortly.

A friend of mine got his back yesterday and the banding is still there but it doesn't appear as easily as before and it's not half as strong when it does. Also his camera was front focusing a little before, now it is not. And he did not even tell them it was. The fix happen to fix that also. According to UPS, mine should be delivered today. I will let you guys know how mine is when I get it.
