Nice one, Justin. I don't think I've personally seen this perspective before. Really nice. I like the way the trees change from green to brown about halfway up the slope. Does the species change? Some sort of beetle kill? One thing that kind of bothers me is the way the cloud in the reflection is further away from the peak than the one in the sky. Did you blend two different exposures there? Overall, a nice view of Mt. Hood.
Thanks Chris. It's from the Hood River side (Northeast side of the mountain but looking Southwest when you're shooting it)
That's a good question about the trees. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's mostly from a wildfire that went through a few years back in that area. There are also deciduous trees scattered in there as well, which won't have any leaves in the winter. I do think it's mostly from the fire though. As for the reflection, this is actually a single shot as I was able to capture all the range I needed from a single file. It's all about perspective and where the reflection lies with the clouds. Most reflection shots are shot fairly close to the water, resulting in more mountain and the sky/clouds closer to what you see above. I was so far up on the ridge, that I got just the tip of the mountain and the clouds appeared to be much farther away.
