Don, I'll take this down but just to show a healthy tail from one of last year's jags.

Lovely kitty shots. As for the tails..mmm.. Mowgli the arsonist is up to his old tricks again? It's the Shere Khan fiasco all over again. Sorry, a little Jungle Book humor.

Thanks for the reference. Love it!

Very nice Cats Don for it to happen on all three cats would suggest a parasite as Eric had mentioned. The licking a way to make it go away Although i would not rule out Lilki s theory

Great shot of the cat....leaving tails laying in the water with Piranhas about is not a good idea.

Nice documentation and information. Poor kitties.
Some sort of dermatitis looks like the culprit ok.
With the symptoms, appearance and environment some sort of fungus would be highly suspect. It would be interesting to know of things that they have in common like same water hole etc.

Very nice shots, itchy tails and all.

Thanks Steve. These cats all frequent large areas along an extensive river and wetland system. Any infection would spread quickly to all of the jaguars, but not all jags were visually affected. If I learn more I will keep people informed.

In what country where these photo's taken?

Did you ever get a definitive explanation of the tail issue?

Thank You.

These were taken in the Pantanal of Brazil. No I didn't get a definitive answer as of this time.
Thanks for looking.
