This photo which I took from my tent is now impossible. The elephants came down to the lone water source to drink. Often kudu, warthog and zebra would also come to slake their thirst.
That pile of tree branches/trunks on the left was a hide and you can see two people in there photographing the eles up close. Why is it impossible now....after many decades the dry river flooded and now that area is a lake and is inhabited by hippos, crocs and only on the banks do the other animals dare to venture. The second shot shows the same area today...swampy/lake...and then there's the leader of the pack and a leopard lounging just like some of like to do on a quiet weekend.

Fabulous set Eric,

The scale shown in 3 is quite impressive. 1, 5 and 6 are also sweet.

There is beautifle soft light right now, I'd be out working it if I did not have such beautifle soft light yesterday leaving me a bunch to process

It's one thing to see the size difference of a baby eli next to an adult, but what a difference with the rhinos. How did the cat and dogs get in there? Nice series and informative, Eric.

Love the story with the first few! Savuti I would think.
Can't you afford to buy your son a telephoto lens, so he doesn't have to risk his life by getting so close to those ellies!!
Actually close-ups of ellies with wide angles are often great shots and safer than most people think!
Your leopard is gorgeous; classic!!
And the dog shot, while not great colour is my favourite because they are such incredible and rare animals, and they make we want to plan a return trip.....soon.

Another great set Eric. Is the leader the one on the right, or the one in mid-air? ~ Ron

Glad you liked them Morris...and yes it was a beautiful late Autumn day here in the NY/NJ area.

Rex

Thanks Rex...like many other things it's difficult to appreciate the size in a photo and not until you see them in person or at least next to something else can you tell just how massive they really are...and I think I left the door open for the cat and dogs....ooops, my bad

Thanks so much Don...it was quite an experience to be that close and on foot rather than in a vehicle...but felt very safe. I done some other ele photography on foot but from a much further distance with longer lenses....still you have to be wary and since they can run 35mph if they want to make an example of you there's little you can do. I love to get leopards on branches with a clear look...doesn't happen often so you you have to take advantage of it. The dogs are quite special as you say and I was very excited to be able to see such a big pack.

Thanks Ken...nature reclaims its territory again and makes every animal, including the humans in the area adapt.

Thanks Ron...I think the guy out in front is the alpha but honestly I'm not sure.
