I waited until sunset for the Crystal Mill when I was there this fall.
It was pretty overcast during mid afternoon, and I almost started hiking out early, but I saw few cracks in the sky, so I waited around. Turned out to be pretty nice. Long hike out in the dark, but I'm pretty happy with the image I got. Plus, the excitement of waiting for sunset is always fun, and the ribs at the bbq place in town were awesome at the end of the day!

Hey John,

I really like the look of the water here, nicely composed. But I don't like the blown out clouds, and there is an odd brown cast to the whole shot. The coloring of the shot just doesn't feel right.

So you were able to get in there before the gun shooting old man ran everyone off? That's good. It sounds like these lower in the water shots will no longer be able to be shot.

You are kidding Jim, aren't you? Is there really a chap who is willing to take pop shots at you if you go near this place? I assume he lives there?

Yeah, I was there a week or two before that incident happened.

From what I hear from friends in Marble, liability has become a major issue at the mill and all along the road to the mill.

Most (if not all) of the land along the old road is privately owned. The town of Crystal and the mill are certainly privately held.

A cable has now been placed to prevent folks from hiking down to the water. Large bushes have been removed for 'new' views of the mill. This has all been coming for the past few years and I'm sure it's due to a few who have crossed the river and gone into the mill, etc. Cannot blame the landowners for wanting/needing to protect themselves.

I'm just glad we have access to the mill and that it has been preserved.
