I'm thinking seriously of a D750 and pairing it with a few Tamron and Sigma lenses. At one point there were reports D600 and D800 would use the same AFMA value for any Tamron or Sigma mounted lens and wouldn't distingush say a Tamron 24-70 vs. a Tamron 70-200. Anyone know if this occurs with a D750 or D810?

The conversation in the linked thread makes it seem like the issue is on Tamron's side, where they aren't encoding their lenses with the appropriate EXIF data for the camera to differentiate them.

Hi John,

That would be my guess too, or maybe the Nikon body decides it won't do different AFMA if the lens is not reported as a Nikon brand lens (intentional or accidental).

Regardless, I'm really interested to know if this persists with D750 and D810.

The issue is the lens ID that is communicated to the body. All Nikon CPU lenses have a unique ID. Tamron reuses their ID's regularly. AFMA uses the lens ID to determine which settings apply. Hilarity ensues.

mawz,

You're implying the problem persists on D750/D810 since the lens ID Tamron is using isn't unique per lens family even (let alone per lens)? Out of curiosity, are you in touch with Tamron about this issue?

Sigh. It's possible to hack something together to work around this based off the information here:

&

but what a waste of time...

The problem is on the lens side, so it affects all SLR's (yes, this issue exists on A and EF mounts as well). It normally is only an issue with properly identifying lens metadata, but also affects AFMA.

This isn't unique to Tamron either. Sigma actually used to be worse for this, but they seem to have gotten their act together of late.

I'm actually more familiar with the issue as it affects A mount than F mount.
