It looks like he has a sword so perhaps he is performing the operation. I'm not sure of the intention of this photo. But it is quite hilarious to me. The outfit is ludicrous and his expression tells me that he takes it VERY seriously or he's about to cast a spell on you for trying to steal his soul. I guess circumcision is no joking matter. My apologies if I have offended anyone with my American stupidity.

I wonder if he really understands. They all wear that outfit and go through it and they are treated like a king for the day (in smaller places I've seen a mini-parade for them) so I suppose there are upsides for them, a mark of growing up etc. Let's just hope the guy doing it has steady hands.

My daddy was in WWll. He always said that the Turks were tough, hard soldiers. After circumcision, they probably thought the war was a cakewalk.
