Dan Heitman and I were out after shooting sunrise and then we went looking for grizzly bears. No luck with the bears but the sunrise was nice and a wolf came out on the road.
The unlucky part was that he would not go in the ditch for a nice shot. He insisted on standing on the road. But when I got out and approached a bit he went into the trees. We saw him again but the same dance occurred. So I could not get to close.
Anyway, here are my best tries of the morning.

Wow...despite not being able to get him off the road, still a great series. Love the one of him peeking through the grass, even the one in the middle of the road has it's own great quality to it. Nice view of Castle Mt. too
Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it back up to the area this summer because I've got two malamute pups I'm raising and didn't get the help I was expecting to let me get away for awhile.

Really cool shots of the Black Wolf Scott... I too like him peeking through the tall grass, I wonder if he thinks he's well camouflaged?
I also like #1, kind of an eerie sense to it... shooting it wide open was an excellent choice IMO.
"The Sunrise on Castle Mountain" is gorgeous, love the big sky view and great light, very nice composition Scott.

You guys are ambitious to get up so early (well, not as early as two months ago), and got some nice images as a result. I quite like that view of Castle Mountain. Well done. Are you using Sony's lens on the Alpha, or are you mounting Canon gear?

Glad you like Castle. It is from just before the exit on the highway.
Used canon for wildlife. Used a7r with metabones adapter with Canon TS17. Dan was shooting by my side with d800 and 14-24. The 14-24 is a really nice Nikon lens. But seeing him struggle with composition because of tree lean just reinforced to me that TS17 is the best landscape lens available. I was impressed with my files 36mpx from TS17 is great.
