I am not saying it doesn't exist but I never noticed the field curvature to be that bad, if any. At least, mine doesn't exhibit that from my own experience. I am not sure how isolated or how wide-spread the "issue" is but this is the first time I have seen it reported.

I'm sure stopping down to f/11 would help a lot and perhaps Tariq had a sub par copy. the 28/2.8 ais also displays this type of field curvature to a lesser extent. does the 28/1.8 have a floating element? it's possible if Tariq's adapter was too short the floating element would be in the wrong location relative to the other elements and could increase FCC.

Having used the Contax 28/2.8 for a bit now on an A7, it's slightly miscast as a superb landscape lens. It's a good landscape lens, but even stopped down, the corners are good, not great. What I really love about the lens is how it performs on wide apertures at closer distances, where the microcontrast is really evident.

Tariq used it on his Nikon D800 for his test and I had used this lens on my already sold Nikon D800e as well before adapting this lens to my A7r. So, an adapter issue is not the case here. I dug up some online reviews and I have yet to encounter any that reported a severe field curvature issues of this lens. It makes me believe that his copy is not up to par but who knows... It is ironic that I like this lens better on the A7r than in its native camera .

Athough I've been shooting my c/y Zeiss 28mm 2.8 lately, I was going back through some of my shots with the Nikon. Granted there hasn't been much interesting to shoot with the Zeiss, but I'm still impressed with the Nikon.

All the talk about the Nikon not being that good at infinity.....it seems pretty darn good to me. The sharpness rolls off towards the edges, but not dramatically. Maybe a little dip at the thirds. It would be great if the whole frame was as sharp as dead center of course.

From the samples it looks like the AF-S would be sharper no doubt, but I'm still impressed by the old AI-s. Maybe one day I'll pick it up. Although I'll probably at least hold off to see how the Sony G version looks. (And maybe by then there will be other options.)

I just saw this...I actually owned two copies of the CY 28/2.8. I owned the D800E for a short time and I don't believe I ever tested this lens on that body. The first copy I owned back when I shot the Canon 5D - so quite a while ago (2006). Even on the 5D, this copy never showed tack sharp corners by F8 and F11 were so so. Boy though, was it amazingly sharp in the center with incredible micro contrast and color pop even wide open. I owned my second copy of this lens when I shot the Sony A900. On that camera, I was not as impressed with the lens. It did not show the uber microcontrst as the first copy did on the 5D and the 24MP sensor really seemed to stress/test the lens even more with regard to resolution, particularly off axis.

I almost picked up another 28/2.8 AIS recently, but grabbed something wider instead. One of the Nikkor's traits that hasn't been brought up yet in this thread is its insane close focus.
