I'm completely new to Macro, and pretty much clueless lol .... So if you see any problems, or glitches, I'm completely open to suggestions. Oh, so I'm using a rented Canon RF 100 mm macro, which has to go back in a few more days But feeling like I'm just going to have to buy it I wish it had stronger native magnification.... But none of the stronger Macro lenses (that I've seen.... direct me to one if I've missed it) have AF, which I think is going to be critical for in-camera stacks of 60, 100 or more shots. These 4 shots were stacks of 60 to 200 shots. So, I've just been using it with two 35mm extension tubes, plus this is on my crop sensor R7, so that gives me more reach as well. I think I'm shooting at pretty close to 3 X's magnification. Put it this was, I used little to no crop on these Aphid shots. A 1-5 X's mag lens WITH AF would be the holy grail, but I don't think their is such a thing
The last 4 here > https://flic.kr/ps/3sNzDS were from yesterday afternoon. I was first intending just to shoot the whole Strawberry blossom.... Then, after I started looking at it through the macro lens, I noticed the exoskeleton of... not sure, but another Aphid ? Then noticed the live Aphid...and even another buried down in the Pistils
With the winged Aphis, I could only barely see its wings with my naked eye outside, looking through the strongest part of my reading glasses My camera sees better than I do lol So I clipped off this little tiny rose bud and bring it inside. Then I could see it was another Aphid, but with wings. I was happily surprised to see all the rainbow effects pop up on its wings I was doing like 60 to 200 shot stacks, and at some points, to get enough light from my LED, I was shooting as long as 3 second frames (I need brighter light) The little Aphids totally migrated in between two of those shots > then, never moved while I messed with them for 30 more minutes How lucky was that ? I assume they are juveniles, but I know nothing about the life cycle of Aphids. Never new they had faceted eyes either Oh, the Wasp was a dead one, but I thought the shot came out pretty good.
Anyway, I'm having a blast. During my first week of macro shooting Totally open to suggestions and critiques.
