Ha! THanks, Peter. I think that was Stallone in the second or third Rambo movie, but I was DEFINITELY not thinking of that when I shot this!!!

I love how you got the eyes to pop in both shots. The first is my favorite.
Great concept and execution.

Thanks, guys! Greg, yeah, for me the key was the eyes. It was all about the eyes in these shots.

Definitely love No. 1, full head shot. Simple and understated but toatlyy effective image.

Ron,

Some thoughts:

In the first, I feel like your key placement is leaving a lot of lateral nose shadow intrusion onto her cheek, making her nose look a little larger than it needs to. Its not a giant issue, but I think I'd like the shot better if your key were placed a bit higher and/or a bit more frontally for this kind of shot. I also feel like the composition could have been worked a little more carefully. Even in that dark pool, there are lines which could be used for composition, but she's mostly centered without any real integration of those lines. On the other hand, I like her expression and the use of the reflection.

The second shot I think feels more developed in the composition department (but maybe just a HINT tight), and even though the lighting is the same the nose shadow issue is largely obviated by her nose being underwater. I wish her eyes has a more readable expression here: there's maybe a hint of fun, but I think the setting/ambiance of the shoot is dark and sultry, I'd like a little smolder from her eyes.

Overall there's some nice stuff going on in these photos, and some of these nit-picky details are hard to carry out in a technically more difficult shoot like this.

Evan, thanks as always for your detailed notes. I intentionally chose the local public pool for this shot because I wanted some length on the lens, and the public pool gave me the space to do that. But that also meant the lights were 40 feet away from her instead of just out of the camera's shot. So the lighting wasn't going to be as soft as I would have liked. I get what you're saying about the nose with the lights, and I think it would have worked better if I could have had the lights closer.
