Hi, trying to decide which one to print maybe..definately reached the limits of iPhoto and was going to pull the trigger on Aperture until I read here that Apple is kicking it to the curb or something..not sure what to do..anyway, appreciate any feedback...these were handheld, I sure like the VR on the 16-35 and used a CP filter as well...allot of negative talk about the hideous distortion the 16-35 has at 16 mm and how a circular polarizer shows color banding at the wide end as well but in certain situations neither one of these issues are apparent and can be used effectively, thanks

I switched from Aperture to LR - but I only use these programs to store my images; much like iTunes . All of my editing is done in photoshop and/or Capture One.

As for the photos, I like the first one the best, although the colors seem a tad off. I know it wasn't in ideal lighting conditions. the other waterfall photos look unnatural in regards to the edges of the trees and sky. Too much polarization, especially in #3. Just my opinion

good stuff..appreciate it..I'll go back and maybe change the tint or contrast a tad..not much experience with CP filters..just dialed it up until it was at it's darkest, but I can see what you mean..darkest doesn't have to be the default go to setting...it does look a little unnatural now that you mentioned it..thanks!

Hey Kell,

The darkest setting on a CP should never be your "default" setting.... there should not be a default setting, you want to adjust it visually for each scene. But especially if there is any sky in the sky, you will seldom adjust it to it's max, because then it will make a dark blob in the sky.

Your #1 to 4 shots are almost all identical, with a slight change between them. #2 is my favorite. #'s 1,3 and 4 all have way too much dark forest on the right side of the scene. That area adds nothing at all visually to the shot, so you would want to avoid compositions like that in the future.

As for what's next.... anything that lets you do layers is the best choice.... Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop Elements is what I recommend. I know a lot of people have jumped on the LR bandwagon, but LR for me is just to restrictive and limited compared to either CS6 or Elements. But that's my preference.

thanks guys, good reliable information..good learning about the CP, had no clue what the usage guidelines were....and will work on comp, didn't add the bookend trees intentionally..there was a space along the rail you're not supposed to climb over and it's as close to the Falls as I could get, but something to be mindful of in similar situations, maybe not have gone so wide, or maybe the 50 would have been perfect...always something to learn and experiment huh...I went and adjusted the WB, tint and contrast as Dustin suggested about the colors..here's crack at it anyway..but I totally agree the colors were overcooked or something...
