p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Weather Seal Gasket for non-weathersealed lenses?

Just was wondering if anyone had any input on whether or not you can install a weather seal gasket at the mount on non-weather sealed lenses... can you just remove the mount add a gasket and be done with it? I have see some other optios, but just wondering if anyone has tried or if it is not a good idea.

I expect that's a great big "no", but I've never tried.

In the 'old days' I used modified Op/Tech soft cases (with the front cut off and a cut-out for the finder), and duct-taped plastic lens covers to protect my gear when shooting paintball and on ships at sea in bad weather.

Now I use Think Tank Hydrophobia and AquaTech rain covers when I'm expecting to shoot in the rain, or an Outex soft case for really wet conditions, like on a sea kayak. I have a couple of Op/Tech RainSleeves tucked away in my most-used bags, just so I won't get "caught out". Note that these are protection strategies that I use with both weather-sealed and non-sealed gear.
