Just got back from a trip to Badlands National Park and the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Here are a pair of shots from the Big Badlands Overlook. Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Especially interested in hearing about placement of the horizon (should it be higher or lower?) and post-processing tips.

I think your horizon placement works fine in both of these. That is a hard sky to tame in the second shot. I think I prefer the softer light in #1. This looks like a good place for a telephoto to go after some details with no sky at all (once you get some side light on the badlands).

your compositions and horizon placement look great. the light at sunrise is killer! love that color on the cliffs.

I really like the composition on both of these. I have been to this same overlook but much later in the year. I am surprised how green it is here. Great pictures
