My job takes me out to Miyajima about 15 times a year actually, been there well over 60 times. The gate only "floats" for a few hours either side of high tide, the rest of the time sits on the mud flats. This gate is actually the fifth gate to have sat out there it was constructed in 1875, as well as the smallest. The original gate was nearly double that size.

Nicely done.
