p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · A Blossom and a Monolith, Yosemite

This was from my Yosemite high country hike a few weeks ago.
This was an impulse shot when I spotted the wildflower out on North Dome.
I know I could have taken it better but it was a rented camera & this was more about the hike.

I liked the juxtaposition of the bloom & ole Half Dome

Hello Dan, I like what your getting at here. The depth of field is really taking away from this photo though. Im guessing you didn't have your tripod this hike as you said the hike was the priority and photography secondary. I would love to see you take another shot at this where everything is in focus. I have seen your other shots from Yosemite and if you put half the effort you do into those shots here you will have a really stellar composition. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Dan,

To add to what Charlie said, also be sure to use a polarizer or watch the highlights as the foreground granite really feels harsh. Perhaps shooting it again at a different time with some softer light and also some shadows could help with the foreground granite. Not only won't it feel as harsh, but it won't feel so flat.
