p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Nature's Fireworks

So I recently moved to Naples, Florida and I can say I was a little bit skeptical of what kind of landscape opportunities I would find. I can say that I am rather happy about the amount of inclement weather roaming around. Two nights ago I was hanging out at my parents house watching the Rangers-Kings Stanley Cup Finals when I saw flashing outside during the first period. So I decided to step outside for a bit and battle the insects in hope of catching some of nature's fireworks. For a half hour session and many bites later I walked away with about 15-20 keepers. Here are two that I thought represented different compositions and were worth sharing. Thanks for taking a look and hope you enjoy.

Hey Charlie,

I like #2 quite a bit, though with both shots I would crop off most of the dark bottoms in the shots. The black area just takes away from the shot. The other thing is I wish there were not so many house lights along the horizon, they also really take away from a Landscape image.

I am glad you are finding some things to shoot in Florida. For me, I don't think that I could ever move there as Florida is just too far away from the mountains and the desert for my taste.

Thanks Jim, I originally did crop more off the bottoms on both of these but they seemed way too top heavy. I was trying to find a nice balance of space of foreground and sky. I also completely agree with you about the houses on the horizon line, I really wish they weren't there too. Sometimes you just have to play the cards you are dealt. As time goes on I am sure I will find the good spots to setup when these boomers come rolling through and hopefully the compositions will be free of all the eye soars.
When I was getting ready to move down here one of my biggest qualms of going was what's gonna happen to my landscape photography.... Florida is just so damn flat. Looks like i am gonna have a hell of a ride to get to the hills now. Anyways thanks for your comments and I look forward to sharing more in the future.
