I hiked The Narrows in Zion National Park last week and had a great experience. To my surprise, I was the only person hiking that early in the morning. I made it to Wall Street and had the place to myself for at least 45 minutes. My solitude was finally broken when I came across a group of top down hikers coming from further up the canyon.

Here is a blended shot in the lower section of Wall Street that I liked. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Great shot. I love the water texture and the reflected lighting.

Hey MAtthew,

What a cool shot, love the water motion, that's perfect. And how nice to have the place to yourself.

Matthew,
Very nice! Interesting effect with water - looks like metal.

That's one of my favorite stretches of the narrows. It's such a great corridor to catch some reflected light. The composition works well for me, though I do wish I could see a little more of the top and a bit less of the bottom. I'm one that prefers a longer exposure on water. I know it's in vogue right now to show a lot of texture on water, but sometimes that makes the images feel a bit busy. A slower shutter will give the image more of a calm feeling, and it sometimes makes the rocks on the surface look pretty cool. I'd also suggest bringing down the overall brightness a bit. The water is losing some of the wonderful color from the reflected light because it's so bright. If you darken it down a bit you'll get some richer dark tone in the cliffs, and the foreground water will hold a bit more color as well.

Thank you all for your kind comments, and especially to Ben for his suggestions. I will work on the shot some more with those critiques in mind.

I have a few more decent shots from that hike and hopefully I'll get around to posting them soon.
