A postcard from Barbados. My only chance for a 'palm tree beach sunrise' shot was that morning. It was very windy so long exposure times were not possible without blurring the trees. The sunrise turned out to be the best of the whole trip... fortunately.

2nd version after helpful input. Thanks!

Very nice postcard like image of the island. Has a nice tropical feel. Shooting in the tropics is very tough. The commonly low cloud deck (about 3500 feet on average) ruin a lot of sunrise/sunset shots and getting high clouds for a nice undercast is not that common. I think an old front went through recently and or the remnants of afternoon thunderstorms created nice high clouds.

Looks nice, we really like Barbados. Nice you could get up higher to get a nice, high point to get tops of the palms in.

That sure looks like a nice and calm place to hang out and enjoy the sunrise. The color and composition work for me, but I think you've pushed the image a bit too far when it comes to getting detail in the shadows and the highlights. The end result is that the sky feels a bit dark, and the foreground feels a bit bright. If this was mine, I would brighten the sky a bit to preserve the feeling of looking toward a sunrise. The water below the sun feels a bit dark, and the sky also feels a bit dark as you get away from the sun. I love how you handled the sun here since it has some color to it, so I would keep that the way you have it, but I would brighten the rest of the sky. Also, notice how the water just to the left of the middle clump of palm trees looks great, but as you get closer to the sun the water gets very dark.

Very nice imaging, Sandra. I'm not sure I like all those fronds coming in from the left. I'd like to see more of the pretty sky on the left.

Ben, thanks for your very helpful advise. Problem was that due to the stormy breeze a bracketing was impossible with the moving trees. I agree to the sky and the foreground and tried to fix it. However the water had this sharp border from bright turquois to dark blue so it has to remain as it is.

Yes, that's the problem at this beach. Too many palms too close to the camera. I have of course several shots but to the left there are even more and higher palms. That's why I have chosen this frame in the end.
