I'm normally over on POTN but I'll be posting here more since I'm getting away from Canon equipment with a new Sony A7r and adapted lenses. So I thought I'd post a recent shot from Central Oregon to somewhat reintroduce myself since I probably haven't posted a pic here since like '06 There are some real inspirational photographers on here and hopefully I can make a positive contribution as well!

Shooting the night sky is a huge passion of mine and something that I try and incorporate into landscape shots (though this one has a human structure in it...). Shot with Canon 6D (it will be missed) and Samyang 14mm F/2.8. Scene was light-painted with LED's from multiple angles the door was there though I had to flip it over to get to the crusty paint. Enjoy!

Very, very nice! All the elements work together nicely and you caught a bright milky way.

Wow it looks so good it almost looks fake.

Great job making the light painting look natural. I am curious if you had any that light up the tree a bit more just to have some detail in the branches?

Well done. Brian

That front door makes the shot.

I'd have to double check but I think the branches showed up pretty much clipped/black, minus right at the base. I was fortunate enough to pull detail from the house which was probably because of the white paint. I may need some stronger LED's next time as the tree lit up would look pretty cool, or at least worth a try though I wouldn't want to take away from the Milky Way shining through.

Fantastic work. The light painting is very consistent, really well done. If I overthink it, it does bother me a little that the tree is fully in shadow, but the house and door arent. On the other hand, I loved it at first sight, and the black branches provide a nice contrast to the sky behind.
Well done!

Very interesting composition. I like how the Milky Way's brightest area is behind the silhouetted tree.
My only suggestion would be to tone down the brightness of the foreground door.
Thanks for sharing!

Great shot - I'm glad you're posting here again. I would like to take some night sky shots, and just got the samyang 14mm. So I'd love to see more of yours, and any details on how you shoot them.

Personally, I think the tree in silhouette is perfect for the shot - highlighting the house and Milky Way.

sweet shot.
I agree that the foreground could be a little darker to blend. I think it is a style thing, depends what you are wanting.
