Hey all, I have been going through a divorce and I am now putting all my efforts into photography full time so I've been neglecting my online forum favorites.

Anyways, I am no longer in Texas and have moved high up into the Colorado Rocky Mountains. (MUCH better scenery!)

Here's some of my recent work.

Nice, and recent too.

You do realize there is an actual Mars research station out by Hanksville where they wander around the desert in space suits... But wait a minute, looks like you were close and didn't know it! I see Bull Mountain on the left. Mount Ellen... Unless I'm totally confused, the peaks are so flat in this view.

Thanks Craig!

Yes, that shot was actually taken near there. It was the backside of that area, taken from the end of the canyon at goblin valley.

Nice work Todd, especially the first one. On the third shot I would have liked a bit more light/detail on the near side of that structure.

I will be visiting that area later this year. How was the condition of the road?

Thanks, Yeah, that wood just sucks up light. I had a hard time getting enough light on it, without flooding the foreground and other areas with too much light.

Yes, Wild Horse road is in good shape, until it leaves the canyon and climbs up into the rolling hills that butt up to Capitol Reef.. From there, it's rutted, but not bad. However, if you keep going the road eventually follows next to a creek, which creates about 16" berms of soft river sand. I did about a mile in this with my Forrester, until I felt nervous about getting stuck in the middle of the night.

I don't think you can even know, say, or guess what Utah off road conditions will be in the future out there (especially without knowing a date). Run into monsoon season, or any heavy rain or hail which has many times resulted in flash floods or gooey quicksand in the entire area. On the other hand, it may be bone dry and hard packed. I had an experience once out by the temples where it took me hours and hours to get out in my TJ Jeep, the rain was so severe, the main road washed out and new washes had formed, some 10 feet deep. So you just look at the sky, and always have an alternative plan. I have nice pictures of my brother and I in Little Wild Horse and Ding & Dang canyons full of water too, some over our heads.

Sorry for your marital woes, Todd, but it sounds like you have recovered nicely. I always enjoy your work and never feel qualified to critique it. Still, I agree #3 could use a little more light in the FG, even if done in PP. Best of luck on your new location. I love CO and plan to spend the month of July around the San Juans.

I waited to see those on my calibrated screen at home, and they look great, i see no problem with FG or whatsoever.

Sorry to hear about the divorce, i assume its for the best, and every ending is a new beginning...

These are nice, but the 3rd an 4th stand out for me.

Cheers!
Andrey

Sorry about your divorce Todd, as Andrey says hopefully for the best.

I really like the first shot.

Thanks guys! I've still been shooting, but I was living out of my Subaru for a bit, so it was a bit tough. But, I now have a ground base here in Florissant. So much to shoot, and so much closer than ever before, it's great.
My only regrets on the divorce, is that I didn't do it 10 years ago.

And I agree with the lighting.. I will see if I can get some more light to show up in that area. (although this mine is about 30 minutes from me, so I imagine I will be shooting this a lot as a standing fall back location close to the house.
