The morning after I shot Mobius Arch I went back to the same area to see what the sunrise might bring to the Sierra crest. The sky to the east was clear, but unfortunately so was the sky the west, so there was no opportunity to play the mountains against colorful clouds. Still, it was fascinating to watch and capture the change in color projected on the mountains as the sun rose higher. And I know that this has been done a million times, but it was still a cool experience for me to capture it in person.

These were all shot with a 70-200 f/4 at from 155 to 200 mm, with from 7 to 10 frames. They really look better the larger they are viewed, but I'm including a screen-sized version of each to give a view of the whole scene at once.

I like the ones without foreground as it does not add much to your image.
they are fantastic.

These are sweet! Viewing them on the computer is not doing the images justice, I'm guessing they will make exceptional, large prints. Nice work-

I like the second best, although all of them are beautiful, a small note: the first has some dark line in the sky in the right part of the image, its an easy fix, the third is a little no no for me because there in no sky over rocks on the left, so my eyes want to see whats up there...

Thanks, David and David, Paul and Andrey. The dark angled line is actually an anticrepuscular ray; there were some small clouds above, and that is a shadow. I guess I could clone it out if I print it. Yes, on the third one I traded Lone Pine for Whitney and the glow on the Alabama rocks!

Very nice. I like 3a the best -- nice contrast between Alabama Hills and the high peaks. Looks a little breezy up on Whitney!

3a is my favorite Dave. I really like the close-up view of the mountain range with the blowing snow. I sure miss that place.

Yes, the light is so similar to what I had a year ago. Lovely photos you have here. Nicely executed panorama. I like the composition. I like 1a and 2a more than others. They all look good. Wall hangers!
