This was taken from Taft Point in Yosemite National Park. I was using a Nikon D700 with 24 70 2.8 lens @ 24mm and f10. Comments and critique welcome. Dave

I think this is pretty nice -- a view I haven't seen all that often. We get pounded over and over with the same ground level view of the valley, its quite refreshing to get a different perspective.

It takes a LOT more work to get to a lot of the other views

This very nice image looks like it was made from Glacier Point area or a bit down the Four Mile trail which goes all the way down to the valley (and a Must do hike!)

Thanks for the nice comment.

Actually this was taken from Taft Point after a shot 1.5 mile hike and not a very strenuous hike at that. I have some taken from the Four Mile Trail in my gallery as well. Most of my Yosemite stuff is taken from the high country surrounding Yosemite Valley. It is my favorite place, and I like going as often as I can. Here is one from the Four Mile Trail looking toward El Capitan.

Not only an unusual viewpoint, but really nice handling of the lighting. Usually contrasty, dappled light like that is troublesome, but this has a lightness about it that really convey a summer day in the Range of light. this makes we want to linger and study the scene for longer than the usual Yosemite valley shot. Really nice!

Hey David,

There are lot's of good views to be taken from up along there. I like this one, though I do have to say that that one set of straight edged clouds along the horizon on the left do bother me visually. I am not sure what you could with them, but that straight line in a shot that otherwise is full of curves just distracts my eye.

Wow, this is a simply stunning image to me from a wonderful vantage point. The sprinkling of shadows from the clouds make the scene. The second image is quite interesting as well!

Really like both of these.
I visit the park often and while I like the traditional valley places,
have always wanted to hike up for a different view.
I especially like #2 as the trail view really places you there
Thanks for the inspiration to do it!

Thanks Dan. I am glad you like these and took time to comment. The first pic I took at Taft Point and the trail to get there is off the Glacier Point Road and is only a short hike of 1.5 miles I believe and not very strenuous. The second pic was taken on Four Mile Trail, and as the name implies it is a little over 4 miles from top to bottom, and you need to plan you trip so that you won't be caught on the trail after dark or take a very good flash light or lantern. The Four Mile Trail has a couple of places where you can leave the main trail for some spectacular vistas. Just plan your day according to your capabilities and carry plenty of water so you can drink often. Dave

Thank you PeaktoPeek. I know what you mean about all the tunnel view and other valley shots, and I have some myself. They are all beautiful, but they do get to be quite repetitive. I do try to get different takes on things that aren't always that different. Anyhow, thanks for the comment. It is amazing how many people can look and not say anything.

Hi Jim, and thanks for commenting. The straight edge cloud doesn't really bother me, and I sort of like it. You will notice that it also has a shadow on the hills below, and makes it more interesting to me. Dave
