There will probably be a few here who will be visiting the Grand Tetons this Fall season, so I thought I'd put this one up for all those who decide to quit when the light doesn't look to good!

Those that left early this particular morning never saw this, as the light wasn't great during the early sunrise light. There were numerous workshop groups here that morning led by some very well known 'names' and they all left well to early due to the bad conditions behind them, the direction of sunrise meaning that what they saw as total cloud cover wasn't going to work, and partly in their haste to get to the next viewpoint to honor their itinerary.

My group hung around because I refused to leave and follow the crowds. I just had a feeling that it would break and give us some fantastic opportunities and break it did.

Never give up on you instincts as that is what makes you different and provides the images that others miss.

Never give up!
I am bottling this!

Sometimes it pays off big!
Looks this is one of those times!

Well done!

Im sure its happened to many of us, the sky looks depressing and hopeless, so we pack up and as soon as we start to leave the sky breaks and makes us pay for our haste.

Well done waiting and a stunning image that will be hard to ever duplicate. Thats a one of a kind image

Love it

Great Image and some great words of advice. As with all nature and landscape photography sometimes patients and luck pays off.

Sweet image Nigel.
I always stick around after the sun sets OR the sun rises.
Now I just figure, what the heck, why not.
What's the hurry on sunsets, getting home before dark
What's the hurry on sunrises, getting to breakfast?
It's not like you are going to catch some great light at another location an hour away!!

Thanks for sticking around

Dan

Sweet! I agree. . . some of my best shots have been in rain gear and breaks in the sky.

Utter garbage Nigel! Toss the neg out and sell your gear. You've got no talent!

Oh sorry, was looking in the mirror.

Simply stunning light and capture! Thanks for sharing!

Cool shot Nigel - I've been both types of person - first the guy who walks away, now I'm more of a sticker arounder.

Awesome shot. It is a pretty unique shot even though this location has been photographed to death. The wait was worth it. A lot of times it does not pan out but it is best to be there and this shot proves it.

Very nice Nigel.
When you get that killer light contrast between those lighted areas and the dark background, or vice versa, it's wonderful.

Great advice Nigel! The same patience element can also pay off at sunset!! "It ain't over until it's over!"

Oh BTW, that is an awesome image!
