On another thread, the comment was made that photographing kids was like trying to nail jello to a tree, or something like that. I would like to add husbands to that list. :-) I am somewhat happy with this but not bowled over. My hubster is a New York City boy, born and raised. This was a 'six-tick shoot,' and let's just say, he won't be going back to that location! C&C most welcome; this was mostly practice for me and recon for locations. (I don't sharpen for web or anything like that.) Thanks for looking!
EDIT: We don't know what the speck on the guitar was - probably an insect. I thought it was part of the guitar!
Very nice portrait. I really like the light and color.
In terms of nits, there is a smudge on the guitar below his elbow that I not sure is part of the guitar or maybe something else.
I find the thin branches around the guitar a little distracting. The one below the guitar neck is not so bad but the one above is a little too "in his face".
Thanks Eyeball! That smudge is NOT part of the guitar! I think I'll clone it out. I agree about the branches. I'm not sure I'll use this as a location; initially I went out with my dog and it looked cool, but there are a lot of dead branches that are pretty distracting. Thanks again for commenting!
The light and tone is really nicely captured.
Hope you're kidding about the ticks. My son in-law is recovering from a serious case of lime disease. Be careful out there.
Jodo - I am not kidding and very sorry to hear about your son-in-law. We checked ourselves over very well after this because I felt one crawling on my neck. It is going to be a bad tick season, so everyone should be careful out there!
Sharona, I don't think the smudge is a metal piece on the guitar. It's a small branch of a plant or whatever coming in from the left side, so it's got that foreground blur going. I do agree that cloning it out would help.
I love this shot! The only small nit that I have is the branches directly to our right of him are distracting. But this is something I'd want to print large. Nice job!
Michael - I was wondering about that myself, so thanks. Those branches really are distracting. I was so focused on the waning light, that some things went right by me. I'll try that!
Thanks everyone for taking the time to look and comment. I think the trees are too distracting to use this for anything but it was great practice, and a learning experience.
