Captured at Badlands National Park. I was a bit late to the location and did not get there before first light.

#1 I adjusted the levels and curves in the valley to enhance the little hoodoos and bring out the light illuminating them.

#2 The second was captured on the door trail looking back at the view point

It's a great spot for photography and you took advantage. That first shot is amazing.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you chose to post second image when you have light like that in the first. They aren’t even in the same ballpark for me.

In any case, the first image is wicked, and taken from a sweet vantage point that I'm surprised I haven’t seen more shots from considering there is a platform to it. I think with some small adjustments it could be even better though.

The one small thing that looks off to me is how the yellow/orange colour around the sun appears darker then the rest of the blue sky. The orange colour in the land area looks fine in luminance, but I think the sky area surrounding the sun could be brightened a bit to make it look like less highlight recovery was used, if that makes sense. We are looking directly into the sun, so I think it is ok if it looks really bright. I could be wrong though so I'll make sure to do a double take on my monitor at home later.

Thanks for the feedback Justin, will look at it in the evening.

The second looks really cool when viewed on a 31 inch Monitor, the small size does not do it justice IMO.

Fantastic shots, but #1 is incredible. I should head out that way soon.... How much show is around there still?

Nori, I'm with Justin. He's not saying No. 2 is not a good image. It just doesn't compare whatsoever to No. 1, which is outstanding. You should let that one get its just glory!

I totally disagree!
If you clone out the walking path, and ask the sun to shine there like in the first one, it could be almost as good as the first one...

Great work on the first!
Cheers!

Really cool - it's rare to see good stuff from the badlands but these are great. I love #1, but I agree with Justin - the sun looks a bit off to me. Really minor nit though.

Hey Nori,

You are sure getting my tastebuds going here for the Badlands! I am hoping to visit there this year, so it's cool to see these shots.

#1 definitely is a head turner, I do agree with brightening up the area around the sun just a bit.

As for #2, I love the side light hitting those rocks. I think what everyone is saying though that sometimes it's best to just post one shot. #2 is a really great shot too, but it's going to get lost in the thread since #1 is so out of the ball park!

#1 definitely is a wall hanger! Wow, beautiful light, and love how it's filling in the shadows!

Snow is almost gone, nights are a bit chilly but the days we were there we had nice 60 degrees with sunshine.
