As someone mentioned, the Dogwoods in Yosemite Valley are almost done.
A spots have in-tact blooms but they are few.
Didn't get a chance to go up 120 to look for others.

Here are a few from today

I tried a focus stack on this one, but the extreme distance/focus difference didn't work.
I guess next time I'll use a view camera

C&C

Thanks
Dan

Hey Dan,

#1 is pretty cool looking here, I like it. #3, not sure if even a view camera could get that all in focus. You could have tried to have back off more from the dogwoods, hyper focal focus, and then later crop down to this size. The background will still probably be slightly OOF, but it could possibly be better.

Maybe you need those new lyto cams .

I keep missing out on dogwoods ever year. Always something comes up. One of these days!

I like that last one a lot just as it is, Dan. Attempting to imagine how it would look with the background also in focus, I'm not sure I'd like it better; I'd probably have to see it to be sure.

Jim,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I couldn't back up
was wearing the tree and even a few inches back would have meant branches/foliage blocking the blooms. Oh well, it was worth trying.
The focus stack looked "OK" viewed small, but suffered the usual stuff when over-taxed.
It would have been worth trying the view camera.\

Jason,
This year it happened a bit early due to weather but the blooms don't last long once they are out.
Maybe a week or so.

Ernie,
There's something to be said for OOF when something is far away

Thanks
Dan

Hey Dan,

BTW, your posting of these on FB got me to thinking about #3 and cropping it differently. Now FB is turning it into a square image, but what if you went to a 4:5 format on that and cropped off from the top to lose that bit of sky that is showing in it? Actually to just to the top of that top dogwood flower? Just a thought on that on.

Love the Dogwoods... Your first shot is vary nice, ditto for #2 and #3 is very interesting I like it, if only the falls could be more in focus...I know it is tough to get it all just right

I just scrolled to look at that suggestion, and I say "Yes!"

Dan, You managed to take dogwoods at Yosemite, nicely. Well, they are from the backside of the flowers. But I like the light on them. Hope you found Pohono bridge all right.

As for the dogwoods shot, these flowers are everywhere. So if the flowers over at Yosemite are to be shot, it would be meaningful to have the Merced River or something like the waterfalls in the frame. And you have those ingredients in the frame. Nice! All of the three photos are very nice! Cheers!

Kee,
The blooms at bridge were pretty much gone but there was one look another photog was working.
I did try a few but not many down low enough. Besides, everybody does the shot w/river as background. Unless it's more unique, colorful, pattern, etc, not my 1st choice.

I prefer shooting Dogwoods back or side lit as it really makes them "glow" and attract the eye.
When front lit, often looks flat.

BTW, I like your shots & that's what motivated me to make the trip!

Thanks
Dan
