p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Upcoming WA to CO roadtrip.

Hi all, in a couple of weeks (leaving May 20) I will be heading home to Colorado from Washington for the summer.

I'm looking for recommendations on routes and places to stop along the way and all that good stuff. We're looking to take our time, so detours are okay.

The three major routes I'm considering are:
1)I-90 straight over to all the way to Bozeman (my brother lives in Bozeman) then down through Wyoming back to Boulder. This is the way I drove out here in the fall.
2) Go down to Portland, then up the Columbia gorge, eventually meeting up with I-90, then the same way as option 1.
3)Go through Oregon to Idaho to Utah to CO

So yea, if you have any advice, throw it my way!
Cheers

For me, on the surface, it would be a question of spring wildlife in Yellowstone, vs Canyon country south of Salt Lake City. Wow, what great choices you have.
Your smugmug link is dead, so I couldn't use this for a reference.

It is easy to get Portland and the Gorge then just stay on 84 all the way to Salt lake and Utah. We just drove from the Hood River to Moab and that seemed like it was the quickest way. The middle part of the drive is a little boring. Consider a side trip to Palouse if you go that way. I love going to the tree farm along 84 before pendleton . Easy on and easy off and a nice little break.

Enjoy Brian

Just remembered this thread, whoops!
Probably going to head through Bozeman either way to so my brother, then south and detour through yellowstone maybe?

What a coincidence, I live here but I'm from CO. If I had time to kill, my option would be south to Portland then shooting the Gorge, then detour slightly north into eastern WA. Then back down through Boise, to Twin Falls to catch a snapshot of Shoshone Falls then detour north to check out Craters of the Moon, take the back road over to Idaho Falls then cross the Tetons into Jackson. From there take 191 through Rock Springs and Vernal on the way to Dinosaur National Monument -- which is a lot more than just Dinosaurs. Then just take 40 through Craig and Steamboat and then if you are lucky you can catch Trail Ridge when it opens.
