Thanks Steady and Douglas.
Because all I did was request permission to take a photograph or two, I had no control over the subjects except when to press the shutter.
Really little kids seldom knew what was going on- or even bothered looking at me.
Parents and grandparents were always proud of the children, even in the closed societies of the USSR and China.
But I got a whole lot more smiles in China than in the USSR.
Also- I almost never approached a lone man in China or the USSR to request a photograph.
I figured at worst a woman would just yell at me. But a man? Who knew?
