I am thinking about trying to rent a plane (and pilot

) next week. I want to try to get some photos of our valley with Mt Hood in the background. Mt Hood is about 10,000 feet above the valley and between 10-25 miles from the valley. It will be a 4 passenger Cessna. I have been told that the window can open part of the way

to take pictures through. I have a nikon D800e. and for lenses I have the Samyang 14mm, Nikon 18-35 G, Nikon 50 1.8, Nikon 85 1.8, Tamron 100 mm Macro, and Nikon 70-300 (this lens still takes pretty good pictures but the VR appears to be broken and unreliable at best due to a drop). I doubt I trust this 70-300 to be my only lens used.

Sunrise is at 6:15 or so and I was thinking about trying to take off around 6:00 am and flying for between 30-60 minutes.

Any advice about what settings to use, Shutter speed etc. Which lenses to bring or not bring or mount on the camera first. If the pictures come out good there is a chance I would have them printed and displayed in an art gallery in the area. Would you try to leave a little later in the day to have more light? Any links to articles about this kind of shooting would be great.

I always find it funny when a poster with a loud screaming avatar ends up repeating himself. It hurts my ears.

Once upon a time I know there were tips on Moose Peterson's site regarding this exact question. A thorough search on his site might find you some answers,as the only pictures I ever see here are out an airliner window. What I vaguely remember - Think duct tape and lens hoods,and Nikon 24-120mm vr lens.

Thanks for the help. I did find a article on LL http://www.luminous-landscape.com/techniques/aerial.shtml

He is more shooting straight down looking for abstract patterns but he suggests a shutter speed of 1/1600-2000 which is higher than I would have thought I would need. He is using the 70-200 2.8
