Hi everyone,
this is my first post here in N&W so please bear with me. I spent three days in Gunung Leuser NP in Sumatra in the hopes of seeing a few orangutans. To say I got lucky is an understatement. Hope you like and C&C are more than welcome!
Welcome aboard N&W Ryan...I must say a unique first post here....was looking for eagles, cranes, hummers and all I see are primates...you get my vote! The shooting conditions here seem really difficult and you got some very nice shots. The third and last are my favorites.
The eyes and punk rocker hair style of the third is really something....and obviously not an orangutan, so what kind of monkey is it?

Thanks Eric! The third one is a Thomas's Leaf Monkey.
Thanks for the ID...I imagine you might see some very interesting and unique wildlife in your part of the world.

Welcome to N&W Ryan. Great images of the Sumatra Orangutan and the Leaf Monkey. I recently spent 3 days with the Borneo Orang-utans and it is very cool to see the differences in the two species. The big difference I notice right away is the beard that only the Sumatra ones have.
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and kind words!

Thanks Geoff! Very interesting about the difference between the two Orangutan species. Can I ask where you went in Borneo? That's a place thats very high on my list to visit.

thankyou for sharing these. Wonderful images...this must have been bukit lawah, a few hours from medan? bill
You are correct Bill, we started the trek from Bukit Lawang. Have you been?
Wow, these are great to see, Ryan, many thanks for showing and welcome to N&W. What a wonderful opportunity you had to see these orangutans, and you did them proud. Wonderful shots.

I have been to Sumatra and Borneo to see these guys, always fascinating. So sad to see whats happening to the forests there because of palm oil. It's approved here in Finland for car fuel which is insane. Sorry for the politics I enjoyed the photos, great images, my favorite is the first one!
