Excellent shot. Love the way the light brings out the rock texture. Looks like a great place to explore.

This is fall-into-the-screen detail and composition, Craig!

Very very nice. I notice it's 14mm, but it doesn't feel like it is, it just feels natural. I also love that it's not a sunrise or sunset, just some beautiful slightly stormy light. It's one of those pictures that makes me want to walk into it and explore.

My guess is this is a long jeep ride + possibly hike?

WOW - that's all kinds of cool Craig. I really like this composition, you can look at it all day long. You should print that BIG!

Craig, fascinating places like this and fabulous images of them like yours have always caused me to dream of being there and make me excited during the long drives I make to Utah. Now you got me going again!

Did you hike along the bottom drainage.

Thanks Again Guys!
It was invigorating finding something new! So often, they are failed attempts.

This is excellent. Love how there is so much for my eyes to wonder around and see. One day I hope to go there!

Thanks Scott! That was my impression. It was actually the small spire that interested me, then the lines of the canyon walls, and how they lead you out.

That was the plan!

Yes, I was a little surprised. 85% of the shots I took there were with my 24mm tilt-shift. But the 14-24mm was the one that seemed to work. I spent quite a bit of time trying to ensure it was decently level, so to minimized the distortion and encompassed the scene I wanted to present. It was also closer to sunset than mid day (I think around 6:30pm), and the shadows were getting long and from where I was, the sun wasn't coming back.

If I had your printer I could!!

That means a lot coming from you Jeffrey. I consider you one of the top photographers on this board.
As far as hiking. There's no way down. Well, there is...

Beautiful work, Craig. I don't think that the right quarter of the image is adding much, and it's inclusion makes the canyon bottom feel too centered for my taste. I think the compo would be stronger with cropping to a 4x5 format and losing the right edge. Thanks for the great view!

Hey Craig,

Just going back over this one. I think this canyon is a real "mystery" and that does add to the appeal of an already great shot. It can be so easy to throw words around in a title in an attempt to capture the viewers attention.

Unfortunately the words don't always match the photography being presented. In your case though, it truly does.

Good job.

Jim

Thanks Jim! Yes, I don't use words lightly unless they have meaning to me, nor do I use them simply to draw attention. A little more difficult find than normal, and a spot I know very few have visited. And I was rewarded for some effort.

Thanks Aaron! Next time in Moab, the Brewery...

Hi David, good to see you posting again! Thank for the recommendation. I think I have one just like that I took with my 24mm tilt-shift. I'll have to revisit it.
