A few maternity shots of my wife. She was about 7 months pregnant when these were taken, and we are expecting next month. I want to print one for an upcoming baby shower... which would you print?

All other comments are welcome.

D800 + Sigma 85mm f/1.4.

Leica M240 + 50mm Summilux. This was shot late at f/8, so there's a touch of deliberate motion blur. Hopefully it's not too distracting.

First, I'd rule out the last one - focus is on her face and the cutsie (I don't care for it, others love it) heart is blurred. Make the heart more prominent and in focus and it's back in the running.

So for me it's between #1 - best background and best profile
and #2, where the mountain/hill behind her is competing a bit and her baby bump doesn't show quite as much as #1. Her eyes are going somewhere off to our right as well.

But that's just my opinion. Who's next?

All three examples are nice. Since you've gone to the trouble of placing your lovely wife in a special environment, I'd be inclined to have at least a few in the series show the environment quite a bit more than these do. These are framed fairly tightly as environmental portraits, possibly.

I wouldn't argue with Jim's assessment of photographic merit and I didn't even notice the "cutsie" heart until I read his comments. You said you wanted to choose one for a shower. To my way of thinking the interaction between the subject and camera makes number three the obvious choice for that purpose....

Medowlark has a good point of interaction between subject and camera, but you can barely tell she's pregnant due to the angle of the shot. Heart is tough to see. Mountains in the background of 2 is distracting. No. 1 is really beautiful. Great job! I'd print No. 1.

I think the first is the keeper (printer). It clearly highlights your wife's pregnancy, and the environment is hardly noticeable. I do however like the small ripples of water around her legs on closer inspection. Really nice work.

Great shots! For me, it is between #1 and #2. But I feel #1 tells a stronger story of an expecting mother. For #2, the background isn't that much distracting to me - it was composed that way. The nits I have, 1) the pose - looks more fashion and glamor to me; 2) I would probably liquidfy her dress to cover her feet.

Hi.

Images 1 and 2 have a nice use of the location as a background. Of those, my favorite is image #2.

The dresses look good on the figure in both 1 and 2.

Of the three images, I would print #2 if only able to show one.

Im going to echo basically what has been said. #1 because there is no background confusion. The second image has a nice background but actually detracts from your purpose because of it. The first one is perfect, the lighting, the soft background, how she is highlighted is all great!
