Hello all, I'm after a decent wide angle for my Canon 7D and it's 1.6 crop factor. I'm looking at the Sigma 10-20mm, and heard it's very nice quality. There is a newer version out also, f3.5 through the zoom range. Any thoughts and advice anyone on this lens, and indeed, is the newer one better than the older f4-f5.6 lens regarding picture quality?

The f3.5 isnt quite as good a lens as the slower one, apart from being faster, its not quite as sharp.

If you want fast buy the 11-16f2.8

The sigma 10-20 is a decent lens, especially for the price. I think the canon 10-22 just pips it overall.

Another good option in that price range is the tokina 12-24. The version 1 of that lens is quite inexpensive now (flares though).

I had the 4-5.6 version and loved it. Went to a 5d so sold it for a 17-40. I don't see any huge improvement over the 10-20. Corners aren't perfect but it never bothered me a bit. Have a couple huge prints from this lens and they look great. Never regretted buying this over the canon option.

Had one. Wouldn't recommend it under any circumstances. The CA was destructive and incredibly annoying. PP helped to so extent, but at the expense of image quality.

Many thanks for the replies! Yeah I've heard some hit and miss posts about the Tokina lens. It's narrowed down to the Sigma 10-20 or the Canon 10-22. The consensus of reviews accepts that the Canon just edges the Sigma.
