I have spent a month in Vietnam twice so far and we are going back for another month at the end of this year...can't wait, I'm addicted! So, I have posted many shot in the past but here is another.

An old women, with a lot of character, trying to make an honest living on the Thu Bon River in Hoi An, Vietnam…if not a lucrative one. Depending on your negotiating skills (and they better be good), you can get paddled up and down the river at the rate of approximately $1 per 1/2hr.

Wow, lot's of views and no remarks....

I like the DoF separation and the colors, esp. the yellow handle at the top of the paddle and the purple headscarf, and the reflections in the water. The lines of her face and wrinkled hands depict a hard-worked life. I really like it, great shot.

I'm by no means a pro, so take my comments for what they're worth. I hope others like it too.

A spectacular image, Ken.
What first gets my attention is the sight of the very old-looking woman dressed so colorfully, and with a cigarette hanging from the lips of her multi-lined face.
Then I notice the loose-planked hull of her dugout and the badly designed poling stick.
And the colorful reflections on the water.
And the woman in the other dugout with her straw hat.
And the young woman on shore riding her motorbike while talking on a cell phone.
Yes, there's a lot I like here.
And it's the style of travel documentary photography that has always fascinated me- especially during my own travels to SE Asia and elsewhere abroad.

Thank you for your comments Charlie! They are especially meaningful as I am a fan and follower of your photography from the past, especially your 'people' shots from SE Asia. It is an area of the world that is changing very very quickly and a lot of these moments and situations are disappearing fast...never to be seen again.

Could have been taken when I was there in the mid 60's.

Yes, I believe it was at least mostly overcast. There wasn't an overly high dynamic range of light to deal with. I also believe it was late in the later afternoon/evening time of day.
