Hi guys, I usually don't post photos I take but I wanted to share these photos with you guys since it's very hard to get the permit to this place.
The photos were taken mid-February and this was my second time there. Luckily, I got great lighting for about an hour before it got cloudy and other hikers started to come in.
I didn't spend too much time at the main Wave because I wanted to explore the nearby area, but I kinda regret not spending more time at the main Wave and trying out new compositions before it got cloudy. That will have to be next time
Enjoy! Any critique and comments are welcome.

Be happy you also explored the 2nd wave and other areas. The time I was there I was one of the few people to do any exploring. Most of the others spent the day at the rim of the main wave, clicking hundreds of images which were essentially all the same.

I definitely want to go again. Did you do the daily lottery and, if so, what are the odds in February?

BTW, I do like your pictures. Certainly gives me great memories.

Beautiful photos with a stunning landscape. Did you take any of the waves without people in them?

Yeah I really didn't do any exploring the first time I was there. Didn't even know the 2nd wave existed.

I did the daily drawing on Thursday morning. I think there were about 30 people or about 10 groups or so.

When I went the first time, which was in March, 4 years ago, there were nearly twice as many people if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the compliment.
I did take photos without the people (me and my girlfriend).

Hi Jae,

You came away with some nice shots with some cool clouds. While I think #1 is pretty cool with you two walking away holding hands, I think #2 doesn't work at all. I am sure your gf is cute, but that pose is pretty bad. Her hair doesn't look good and the angle of her just kind of turns her into a blob... (don't tell her I said that...) I think other poses with her would work better, perhaps sitting up along the wall where you see a side profile of her?

#4 is my favorite of the group. I would like to see #1 or 2 without anyone in the shot, I am sure that looks really awesome. But please be aware that we have a 5 photo limit to our threads, so you can't add anymore photos to this one. If you have a few more shots you could add it into a new thread.

Jim

Jae,
When I saw #1 I knew there would be questions about shots without people in them.
I like the 2 of you strolling down the trough! Adds perspective and feeling, and to me more interesting than another landscape shot.
Thanks for sharing.

You did well presenting the unique landscape. It's good to see people in a photo or two since it demonstrates the scale. That's useful to those who've never been there. I like them all!

I too prefer the first shot with the two of you in it, as it adds perspective and scale; it wouldn't have been as interesting without. That said, the second photo is almost surreal, like you Photoshopped her into it, until you look more closely at it then you're like "Hey wait a minute..."! Very interesting indeed!

Wow, the first two photos back-to-back really screw with my sense of scale on the place.

It either looks like the couple in the first photo are too small, or the girl is too big. I keep scrolling up to look between the two photos - it's crazy.

My .02

Take the people out of the wave (no offense Jae). This location is very unique and mysterious and lacking scale plays into the mystery of it all.

If you are fortunate enough to get a pass through the lottery they tell you to enjoy your time there. It may be the last time in your lifetime you visit. There are now several hundred applicants per day on-line and an additional several dozen that show up every day for passes.
Great shots. What WA lens did you use for the first?

Thank you for the comment. My girlfriend thinks the same about her picture
I wasn't really serious or taking time with those shots.
I should have tried a few different poses as you've mentioned.
Thanks again for your comment.

Thank you for your comment. I just wanted to make the shot more interesting, and as you mentioned, put everything into perspective.

yeah it does look like she's been photoshopped into the picture. It still amazes me every time I look at it.

Yeah good thing I didn't go in the summer.
It was my second time here and hopefully it won't be the last.
All shots were take with a Sony a900 and ZA16-35.
Thanks.
