Hey guys!
I have a question:

Yesterday i encountered an issue i have never faced before, just before the sunset i came to a spot i usually shoot, i went to the far west side cause there was no tripods, and no fishermen, on my way i spotted a guy with his dog and a long tele 70-200, standing on the beach and aiming for the spot i was about to walk in, i asked him if i wont intrude by going to a specific area, he said he is more walking the dog, than photographing, so i don't have to worry, once i crossed the water to the spot i realized there was another guy behind me caring tripod and his camera, i set up my tripod and then he came into my frame, i asked him if its ok to move from my frame, to which he responded with a question that put me in a "bad feeling" zone: "do you want the beach to yourself?" with negative face expression, despite the fact i came first, i didnt think much and just gave in, by responding: "if its not convenient i'll find another spot." so i did, after all i wasnt pleased with my other spots i tried, i came home and started walking through my images, thinking about that evening and what would i do different next time, since i dont have much free time, and my only breathing air. are these two sunsets on the weekends, i feel kinda bad, maybe i am wrong?

What would you do?

here is one o caught after the guy left:

and here is i something i got during,

Thank you for your time!
Sincerely
Andrey

That second shot is pretty cool.
A lifetime of experience has made me realize that sometimes we encounter a person who is just inconsiderate and uncaring, and there's nothing we can do about it. We can react any way we choose, but no way we react is going to have the slightest impact on the other person. The wise thing to do is to avoid getting caught up in it, but let it go and simply move on. This is life.

Audrey,
These are both very nice images.
The first has great lines, color/contrasts & the shutter speed is just right
In the second, you captured a unique "pose" of the water's energy & the composition is nice.

As far as etiquette, I think you did the polite thing and it worked out, you got great images.

The other person seems to have a personal problem (based on your account) in that he wanted to own the beach, not you. The fact that he came into your frame & then responded negatively, he is the one etiquette-challenged.

When I'm entering an area with other photographers I ALWAYS as if it's OK & am I in "your" frame. The fact that this person didn't says a lot about their character.

Now I guess it's possible for "Photography Rage" to be a reality.

Being 6'2" 240+lbs with long hair, tattoos and piercings I have not encountered such a problem. If I had I probably wouldn't have dealt with it the same way you did and he would have been the one leaving but you ended up with some great photos non-the-less!

I have never seen this behaviour in wild life photographers. I have had them set up right in front of me as I was shooting

Andrey,
The 2nd is a beauty. Next time if he offers to give you the whole beach...just say "YES PLEASE"

or invite him to your area or go over to his area..maybe he sees something you don't.

I am loving that second one.

I have seen many inconsiderate people, most often they are not the serious tripod toters but often enough they are.

Last time I was at the Watchman Bridge at Zion for a sunset, some guy set up in the river and blocked about 20 or more photos. I told him we were going to start throwing rocks at him. Oxbow bend is another place, people insist on getting down to waters edge and in the frame of everyone in the higher position. I just pick a composition that will be easy to clone them out.

Mesa Arch is almost always crowded but I usually have little problem with photographers, but often tour bus folks come in and put their camera phones right in front of you, or their flashes go off just as you take yours. The worst in my opinion is the show off who walk across the arch to demonstrate their single digit IQ.

The prudent thing was to move on rather than throw gas on the fire. I have encountered this several times. All but one moved without incident . The other told me to "#@*+= Off". There are sunsets every day, so not worth fighting over. Nice images. Jim

Well, I'm also 6' 2" and 230 lbs. I would have answered, "Why yes, I would. But since you are already here have the courtesy to stay out of my frame and I'll stay out of yours."

If he didn't like that answer I would set up about 20 feet in front of his camera and ask him. "What, do you want the whole beach to yourself?"

I'm not a jerk, I'm an easy going guy (or as Professor Higgins would say, 'I'm an ordinary man.'), but when butt heads like that try to muscle me out of my location, watch out.

Hey Ron,

We have a lot of courteous people in here, and there is nothing wrong with that. But I am pretty sure I would respond in a similar fashion as you. I am not one to back down when the other person is acting like a jerk and like in this case like he owned the whole beach. Those people are quite the hypocrite.

I for sure would not have walked away if I was the first one there. I would gladly share a location with someone who comes after me, but I won't let that person ride roughshod over me.

Hey Andrey,

You have two very nice shots here. You did bring a very good point here. In most cases there is room to share a spot. Not always at the beach if the tide is in, because one is limited in places to stand, but usually I try to share the world I have capturing with others. But as I stated in my comment to Ron, that if the other person doesn't want to share, well myself I won't walk away. But when it comes to that, we are all different. Because you walked away doesn't make you any less of a person than someone like Scott or Ron or me who would have stood our ground.

Again, two cool shots! It's a lovely place you have there.

Based on events in recent years, I now back off, where in the past I would have been more persistent. By events, I'm referring to numerous shootings, or other physical attacks, by people when confronted. Your size may only present a better target.

To be quite honest, I don't believe tripod toters are the kind to go off their rocket and shoot someone. I wouldn't be too worried about that. I'd have done what others here have said, go set up in his shot.. though I'm not very patient with asshats.

First off, Andrey, I'd be pleased to find either image on my CF card, especially the second.

It may be that I'm just starting with outdoor photography, but I get the quips when I'm in the middle of nowhere and someone else shows up. I'd be inclined to defer, but we're all usually shooting in rapidly changing light conditions. Do you forego great light in the name of common courtesy?
