Those are both sweet. I like the second one because the window itself is obscured or not evident; it look like the sun is shining through rocks, which adds to the interest and intrigue. I see a magenta cast to the entire second image, not just the snow, but I like it; I prefer the sky color over the first one.

Hey Dave, Glad you liked the shots, and I appreciate your thoughts on them. I will go back later and revisit that bit of magenta cast.

Nice shots Jim. I prefer #2 as I like seeing the window a bit more and the sun star is more symmetrical. I find the sun star a bit too much and takes away from the scene a bit. If there was a way to tone it down in post, I'd like to see that version.

Hey Corey. I appreciate your thoughts on these and I am glad you like #2. As for toning down the sun star, probably the only way would be to reduce contrast in that area, or brighten up the turret itself.

The second has the nice effect of highlighting how the stairs lead to the arch. Excellent shot!

Thanks Jason. I normally don't even like stairs in my shots, so I will often do all I can to avoid them. But in this case with these shots, I did like that my positioning was also going to put the stairs as a nice lead in.

Nice work on both of these, Jim. Exquisite timing. I also think the quality of the sunstar on the 2nd gives a bit more impact. Strictly a matter of taste but I'd experiment with a pano crop to reduce a bit of the sky.

What a cool idea Jim.
Both were nicely executed but I think the second capture is the winner.
Best,

I like the second one best - both can stop me for a closer look!

Nicely seen comps Jim! Like everyone else, I like the symmetry of the star in the second shot. The stairs leading up is a nice bonus. Well done!!
