p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Yucatan Birds

Last week I visited Yucatan. I stayed at Mayakoba resort area and there were lots of birds around the complex and then I visited Sian Kaan nature reserve.

The following are my best bird pictures from this visit.

Keep in mind that birds and south is not my usual fair and so I likely have some birds named wrong, but here are my best from the trip.

Comments and feedback are appreciated. Scott

Glad you like my boat billed heron and roseated spoonbill portraits. The birds were nesting and easier to get close to than I am use to. The 600 was too much lens for most of the time and I was wishing I brought my 200-400. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Lovely images Scott. The boat-billed Heron is impressive, it's bill indeed looks like a boat. Love the feather details in the first photo. I'm not good @ birds outside the oriental region, your cormorant could be a Anhinga. The sandpiper looks like the Common Sandpiper of the east, so could it be a Spotted Sandpiper?

The first boat billed heron is a juvenile - about 2 weeks old.

Cormorant vs Anhinga - I don't know, but it could be an an Anhinga.

Sandpiper - I am less knowledgable than you. I will restudy my bird pictures.

Glad you like the images. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

These are terrific, Scott!

Central American birds are addictive, so be careful, you'll find yourself longing for equatorial latitudes.

A few ID suggestions:
6 Reddish Egret
10 Purple Gallinule
15 Solitary Sandpiper?
16 and 17 Anhingas

Greg

Glad you like 1, 4, 6, 7, 17, and 18 . Feathers are more challenging for focus than fur but they don't bite. Thanks for taking the time to go through them and pick the best. Much appreciated. Scott

I tried to line up a kayaking trip but you have to arrange it well in advance of the day of going. Sian Kaan is a great spot. Glad you like them. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
