Ian,

These are very nice. I'm curious, though, about your choice in using the X100S. I've been meaning to ask this before. I would expect that the 23mm (35 equivalent) at close range would produce some facial distortion, but I don't see it here. Can you comment on it? I have an X100S, but haven't used it for portraiture yet. Any feedback you could give would be appreciated.

There are two parts to it -

1) Keep the face/nose towards the camera where possible
2) Keep a little bit more distance

The range appears close but none are head and shoulders. You would see distortion there. One you include the head to below the ribs you're OK. There are a couple here that are a bit closer and I see them showing a little distortion.

There is a fallacy btw (and I'm not accusing you of it!) that is repeated in lots of photo magazines and by lots of photo teachers that wide angle lenses change perspective. They don't - only changing distance does.
