Well, I hope you like both! I prefer the vertical version, but I like both. The little extra head room in the first makes if feel less cramped. There is enough room on the left, but a touch more may not hurt. Of course, I feel like an elementary student giving my opinion to a master.
Lovely shot. I do like them both, but have you thought of something in between. By that I mean the head room from the first with a bit more to the left , but not as much as in the second crop ? So many choices with such a nice shot
Yes I do like one better, I think a more intimate crop does the expression you captured justice. I also would like to see it a bit looser but still vert. Love the birdy by the way
It's a beautiful image no matter what but the vertical crop works better because it matches the shape of the subject and gets rid of some negative space that doesn't add to the image IMO>

Agreed. This calls for room on top and the left. Think of where the sound waves are going. Excellent image--nice colours, sharpness, and love the soft background.
All these work well Tim. How's that for a definitive help. It is really a matter of personal preference, so it's up to you. Having said that, 2 is probably the most pleasing crop, but I prefer 1 for having the bird larger in the shot ~ Ron
