I had my camera out last night and was messing around with my flash.
I bounced it striaght off the ceiling and had the white card up. My daughter was standing at the breakfast bar playing with some new pens that she bought. When I looked at what I got and was shocked.. My baby girl is growing up.

But she is turning into a beautiful young lady.

ruipeixoto, Aside from the TV being on in the room that she was in is almost dark. She is on one side of the breakfast bar and and I am on the other. Over the breakfast bar and dividing the kitchen where I was standing and room where she was standing there are arches that come down from the ceiling. The bar itself is about 6" tall. Since the flash was fired up very little light could spill forward into that room so, but I was able to get light from above and some reflected from below since her face is just over the countertops. On either side of her the wall facing me are lime green so luckily she didnt come out with a green wash over her. The arches, bar and walls acted like a curtain.
I shot this at 1/60, ISO 100, f1.8 with a nifty fifty on a 6D in aperture mode. I had turned my flash down -3 on the power. I am new to using a speed light so I was snapping shots and adjusting the flash power, f stops and bouncing light off various walls. I basically chalk it up to dumb luck! I can look at it after the fact and see what happened, but had no idea that this is what I was going to get when I took it.

Want to try something really cool?

Take a piece of white foam core, Or even a piece of cardboard with some crinkled up foil taped to it. Sit it on the table and have it just out of your frame.

Bump up the shutter speed, doesn't need to be 1/60 for this, you're killing all of the ambient light anyway.

Oh and (I'm on a mobile so someone with a calibrated monitor can make the sstatement with more authority) she looks a touch under exposed. Maybe try -2 instead of -3 (if you're using ttl. For this you could actually use manual mode and dial in whatever exposure you want).

Want to add a little more pop than that to the eyes? Angle that foam back at her face rather than lay it flat.

All of that without buying any new gear

yup, you might as well get practice now saying to her boyfriends that she brings home, "anything you do to her I can do to you"

She is going to have a lot of suitors....you need to be prepared!
