Canada switched to one dollar and two dollar coins in the 1980's for reasons of economy. One and two dollar bills had an average life span of only six months while coins which are more expensive to produce last indefinitely.

I have some old Canadian paper currency but not in the same condition as yours![]()
Very sharp focus and you were correct in your layout to break up the regularity that would be found if they were aligned perfectly.
