p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Friendly people from Hong Kong

We were riding in an open top tour bus around Hong Kong and I would wave at people and most would wave back.....here are some of them.....I had great fun and a few really got into it....

Please feel free to leave comments.......

These are straight out of my 1Dx, no PP nor cropping. 24-105 lens, wished it had brought the 70-200 the extra length would have been helpful....next time!

This first one I was waving and waving and she was trying to ignore me, but my big smile and wave finally got her to wave back....

Photo 5. The first photo she barely saw me, but by the second she had pulled her daughter in tight and for some reason the people standing near parted and got this shot

By the way, if I didn't say this before, I really liked visiting Hong Kong. Not sure I would like it in the summer, but in January the weather and humidity was just fantastic! Between 65-70 degrees! Humidity was really non existent. For me, it doesn't get any better then that.....oh, by the way I have never seen so many Ferraris in one city........wow!

They are so open to being photographed ... here in the states you're more likely to get the finger.

I spent at least 30 weekends in HK while working in China. Like Honolulu, it's near the Tropic of Cancer. Winters can be wet & cool, and summers are hot, humid & wetter, supplemented with the occasional typhoon. Flying into HK was very entertaining when they were still using the old Kai Tak airport, primarily because the planes had to maneuver very close to some tall buildings. The new airport is world-class, but located much further from the city center. Regarding the Ferarri's, BMW's, Mercedes, etc., keep in mind that the HK price is at least double what you would pay in the USA. The people are wonderful.

Fun series -great post.

Re the 'V' sign. Google around a bit and you'll find all kinds of theories about the origins of this cultural artifact. Some pretty racist, so be warned. But it is definitely something that young Asians love to do getting when getting their photo taken. Apparently falling out of fashion a bit these days, so you tend to get it more amoungst the 20-30 somethings.

I lived in HK for many years, Asian people love cameras so they don't mine having their pictures taken. You do that in SoCal you may get the bird or they might grab your camera and throw it on the ground.

This is what I found......good enough for me....

"Ever wondered it is popular for Asian people to make a V sign with their fingers when posing for photographs?

It might not be as universal as it used to be, but it's a common sight in informal, 'fun' photos of Asian people. The sign denotes positivity, it's a gesture that says "I feel happy. Things are okay. Life is good.""

When I was on the bus, I asked this young lady if I could take her photo. She was sitting in front of me. Later she was taking a photo of herself with her iPhone and of course I had to put my big ole face in there....she was fine with it, and I gave her my email address. What shows up today in my email? The photo of her and I !

Photo 2. Here she is taking some photos......then of course I had to jump in when she was getting one of herself...that is the photo below!

Photo 3 taken with iPhone or other phone by young lady in Hong Kong. That is my gray haired mug in the shot!

Photo 1 she turned around slightly for the photo

Photo 4. When she was getting off I said good bye to her, she turned and waved and this was the shot I got.....just a nice young lady!

Herb, smiles on my face with every image! The people there are very gracious and the impromptu looks are priceless!
The beautiful young lady on the bus seems to have a very great attitude towards life and it is reflected in her poising for and with you!
Great candid images! The best kind!
Very well done!
Dan

Thanks Dan, got to tell you I had a great time there. My wife thinks I was nuts, but she puts up with me. :-)
