p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Tucson Photographers, need shoot location suggestions

I will be visiting my family in Tucson in mid February. I shoot mostly dogs and have wanting to do mini shoots there but need some help finding a location. If it works out, I would be shooting 8am to 5pm. Would like some variety of backgrounds and lots of shade for those bad times of day. If I don't get any signups I will still need to have a location to photograph the family's dogs and that can be early morning and late afternoon, but that is still 5 sessions.

Locations need to allow this type of photography. I called Tucson parks and recreation and was told there are no permits or fees for parks.

- Its been so so long since I've been to Reid park that I don't know what that would be like. Are there some nice areas or will it be a bit stark or unattractive?
- I left a message a La Paloma, but didn't receive a return call yet.
- Trail Dust town, which I wanted to use, no longer allows.
- Saguaro National East nor Sabino Canyon don't recall shade.

Reid Park will work for you. There is also a very nice park off Silvebell Road south of El Camino del Cerro, Columbus Park, that has many different venues with tree shade or ramadas and a dog run area.

Sabino Canyon has a ramada that I've used for family portraits about a half mile walk up from the visitor center on the left side. It's where they have ranger classes and the views are pretty good.

Ken
When I look at the satellite map of Columbus park, I also see sweetwater wetlands park very nearby. Do you know that location?

I used Agua Caliente park a couple years ago. Do you know that location and if so what do you think of that compared to the other locations mentioned. I think sabino is too open/little shade for an all day, yes?

I agree about Sabino. Sweetwater is a nice area but not a lot of shade. You could check it out since it's nearby. Agua Cliente has some nice trees for shade and is good too if you are on the far east side of town.

Just talked with La Paloma. They used to, but no longer allow photographers to use their site. She is fairly certain same is true for Ventana canyon. It's ok if you are a guest and bring in a photographer.

She did suggest checking with Omni Tucson National, so I will. This also made me think go checking with skyline country club as well. I played golf there when I was young, losing many balls, but might be a combination of green, desert and the Catalinas.
