I usually avoid people in my shots at all costs, because it ruins the scene for me...
This is the exception, the surfer makes it!!
Not to mention the sandpiper.

Bravo! So many awesome elements to this! The sandpiper, the surfer, the light, the clouds. Such a feast for my eyes! Well done! I think this should be on a bill board here in Michigan advertising vacationing in Cali!
Did you rent the surfer and the bird for the day, great photo shoot Excellent timing on this Jim. colors and even the human+animal elements are great. Just adds more story to the picture.
Brilliant photograph with perfect timing. Not only for the surfer, but the sea bird too. I bet some would have cursed the surfer for running in to their frame but you have embraced it beautifully.
Without the surfer and bird this would be out standing. WITH both of those elements its AWESOME! The city of HB should toss some cash your way for a big print to hang in one of their facilities.
