The more I look- the more I think these elephants cooled themselves off by using the water from the Mará River- which in my last post was a really muddy and brown river when I was there. And I think that's why they look so brown.
Anyhoo- here are a couple more conversions.

Prefer the color in the first set, and the B&W in the second. Nice set Chuckie.

I actually think the shadows are too deep in the first black and white (and am not crazy about the color either) so texture is lost and the color rendition of the second while ok is not as good as the b&w of the same image.

The light was not kind to you Charlie but I do know that you don't really have full control of that on safari. However to save the day you have a baby ele, which I have developed a real soft spot for so that saves the day

Looking at them makes me ponder their life, what it must be like from their point of view. It must be simultaneously fun and terrifying.

Thanks Morris, Ken, Scott, Eric, Tim, Bee and Kenny.
Yes- strong backlight and strong sidelight are my nemeses.
And, as mentioned, on a group safari we pretty much went to and stopped where the driver-guide decided. I had a one-in-eight vote at best- and our guide was quite good. Plus- the safari I joined was not a photography-oriented one- so trying to stop where the light was best would have been a continual battle.
Thus I had harsh light often.
Overall I had few complaints. Two weeks of great Kenyan wildlife viewing.
A good experience.

Elephants do love to get muddy Charlie, I think it helps to protect their skin from parasites and the sun. Nice shots.
