p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · My first bird shot.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to make a bird feeder out of an apple branch and peanut-butter lid to provide some eye candy for our kittens. Today is the first day we've noticed birds eating from it, so I set up the D200 w/ 180mm f2.8 on a tripod, triggered by pocket wizards. I missed the focus ever so slightly, but I like it regardless! (it was just so much fun trying to get the shot... I felt like a little kid again!)

I'm hungry!

Nice shot. Looks like you got some good detail in the shot, so a bit tighter crop to get rid of the branches would work fine.

Welcome to N&W. This is a very nice photo. You might want to clone out the branch on the right. The background is sweet and you have pretty nice feather detail.

I have the same lens and love it. You can shoot it wide open and it will be just as sharp.

KCollet, I've tried several other crops and didn't find any suitable that I liked...

Thanks, Ron!

Morris, I hadn't thought of cloning out the branch, I may have to fire up Lightroom and give that a shot. Thanks for the suggestion. You're dead right on the 180mm, it is stellar sharp, even at f2.8, I chose F5.6 to extend the DOF since I was firing remotely in manual focus.

Well captured! Amazing really, in the few times I've tried I've never been able to capture songbirds with any good success even with 400mm equivalent focal length.

Congrats on this TT Tufted Titmouse shot!

Looks like the seed is spot on sharp You will want more shutter speed than 1/200th for these shots so figure that in for your next round of fun

Careful you will find this addictive!
